Morphological description
Tendrilled lianas.
Leaves entire. Hypanthium turbinate. Calyx campanulate, 5-dentate, open at apex before anthesis; nectariferous disc absent. Fertile stamens 3; anthers opening by a longitudinal slit.
Pod woody dehiscent.
Seeds with short funicular aril-lobes.
Distribution
4 species in SE Asia, 2 species in Malesia : Bauhinia strychnoidea and Bauhinia tubicalyx .
